» INFLUENTIAL EVENTS:
» FIT: At first glance, Hajime doesn't seem like a good fit for a space station; after all, he's an ordinary high school student. He knows an average amount about space and mathematics in general, and practically nothing about engineering, navigation, piloting, or anything an astronaut should really know. He has no confidence in himself, having been mocked and (in at least one case, literally) beaten down for his lack of talent. But as he develops, he'll become closer to the person he was in Danganronpa 2; still struggling with confidence issues, but he's a good listener, a voice of reason, and can act as a leader, albeit only when there's not much of a choice. He can keep a calm head and use reason, even in extraordinary circumstances.
» POWERS: None! Being completely ordinary is kind of his thing.
» NOTES: Literally the only thing extraordinary about him is how ordinary he is.

Attending Hope's Peak Academy's Reserve Course
To be a student at Hope's Peak Academy, one must be a current high school student, and be scouted for having a certain talent. It's said that anyone who attends this prestigious academy will be set for life. A talent can be in anything, from leadership, to gambling, to sports, to luck; if you're determined to have a talent, you are offered the opportunity to attend the academy. Understandably, there's considerable societal pressure for children to be talented, even though the majority of them aren't.
Hajime Hinata considered talented people (called Super High School Levels, or Ultimates) like celebrities or superheroes, and wanted more than anything to be able to call himself one of them. But without a talent, he had no chance of entering the Main Course. The only option given to him was to join the recently-established Reserve Course, a normal high school attached to Hope's Peak, with incredibly high tuition. Hajime's family couldn't afford the tuition, but because he is so average and untalented, he was a perfect candidate for a research project intended to artificially create a talented person, calling them mankind's Hope.
This project was intended to create a talented person through surgery, at the cost of completely erasing Hajime's personality.Meeting Chiaki Nanami
Chiaki is a Main Course student around Hajime's age, and is one of the few to reassure him that not having talent isn't a bad thing. Instead, she explains that his lack of talent means he has more freedom than she does, and that he can do anything he wants with his life precisely because he isn't bound to a talent. She's the only person who believes in him and wants to be his friend in spite of his normalcy, and even though he can't beat her in her Super High School Level Gamer talent, they still have fun spending time together.
It's because she has a talent and is a Main Course student that her being around him is so important to him.Natsumi Kuzuryu's murder
Natsumi Kuzuryu was a classmate of his who was murdered by Sato, another Reserve Course student. Rather than risk having the news tarnish Hope's Peak Academy's reputation, the academy tried to sweep it under the rug, blaming Natsumi's death on an unknown intruder and refusing to investigate any further. Hajime, suspecting foul play, tries to break into the Main Course to interrogate one of Sato's friends. As Reserve Course students are not premitted on the grounds of the academy proper, the head of security physically throws him out, beats him, spits on him, and explains that the lives of Reserve Course students, and untalented people in general, are worthless. He claims security just doesn't have time to investigate it every time a normal person gets killed, and that talentless people should be content to just try to live while supporting the (talented) people who are better than they are.
Furious, Hajime tries to fight back, only to be confronted with the same logic that Natsumi had used to describe the reason she wanted talent at any cost, before her death; untalented people have no right to exist alongside talented people. It's only the intervention of another teacher that keeps an infuriated Hajime from being severely beaten.
This was the final point which pushed Hajime over the edge and agree to be a subject for the Kamukura Project.Becoming Mankind's Hope/The Kamukura Project
Taunted for his lack of talent, forced to either agree to the project or return to his old high school, Hajime agrees to be a test subject for Hope's Peak Academy. Bitter, angry, and disillusioned with what he can actually accomplish as himself, he agrees to have his personality erased in the pursuit of becoming an artificially talented person, so he can stand beside people like Chiaki and not be ashamed.
His canon point is directly after telling the Hope's Peak Academy Board of Directors that he'll go through with the project, but before he undergoes surgery.

Name: Hajime Hinata
Age: 17
Canon: Danganronpa
Canon point: end of DR2 chapter 6
History: Hajime Hinata, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
Personality:
Hajime Hinata undergoes substantial character development throughout the course of the game. He starts as a person who admires talent in others, wanting to attain that kind of status more than anything. To feel like a member of society and someone he could be proud of, he was willing to give up his entire identity in pursuit of talent. By end of game, though his core personality remains the same, he’s become a much more confident person, happy with himself as he is and determined to stay that way.
Hajime is introduced as someone who admires Hope’s Peak Academy, one of the most prestigious schools in Japan, not because of its academics, but because it guarantees success for its graduates. As someone lacking confidence and feeling isolated from society, he felt that by graduating that school, he would be able to call himself someone special, someone talented. He was so preoccupied by talent because of how “painfully ordinary” he really is. When it comes down to it, Hajime is an average teenager, with no particularly interesting hobbies or skills. He certainly doesn’t stand out in a crowd appearance-wise, at once point told by one of his classmates that he’s easy to talk to because of “that harmless looking face of yours.”
In spite of being completely ordinary and not possessed of any special talents, Super High School Level or otherwise, Hajime becomes a leader among his classmates, guiding class trials and keeping everyone on task and focused. He’s strongly determined to survive along with his classmates, the first people he’s managed to form strong bonds with. Even at the end of game, when it seems like the only options that remain are hopeless ones, he chooses to live and create a new future with everyone else.
Even though he does want to create a new future, without being bound to the ideas of “success” or “talent,” he’s still a pragmatist. He freely admits that it will be difficult, and that it may not go as planned, or may not work at all. Throughout the game, he’s been the most realistic of them all, almost to the point of cynicism. He was one of the last of his classmates to accept their situation on the island as truth, and one of the first to question what was going on. This has remained throughout the game, to his benefit during the class trials. At one point, upon being accused of being suspicious of everyone during a class trial, he argues that it’s not because he doesn’t like them, but because he wants to believe in them. And because he wants to believe in them, he has to find the truth.
One of the things Hajime struggles with the most is being the one to make a decision alone. When confronted with two seemingly impossible choices, he freezes up, unable to pick either one without guidance from another one of his classmates. While he has become more confident in spite of his lack of talent, it’s easy for him to lapse back into being nervous or uncertain of himself, especially in the presence of people he admires.
When it comes to his classmates and friends, Hajime can be a bit of a pushover, being easily roped into situations against his better judgement. Anything from unwillingly crashing a girls-only beach party at the insistence of one of his male classmates, to going along with whatever activity someone proposes even after what might be initial reluctance, more often than not, he’ll wind up tagging along. This good-naturedness goes even deeper to an unwillingness to hurt anyone. Whether it's trying to avoid hurting Saionji's feelings about the diabolical-looking memorial she creates for Koizumi, or announcing that in a situation where he would either literally starve to death or kill a classmate to survive, he'd rather they all starve than hurt each other, Hajime tends to be non-combative.
More than anything, he’s a good-natured person. Even though his skeptical nature prevents him from accepting anything strictly at face-value, he tries to see the best in everyone, willing to work with them and doing his best to become friends with all of them. His most sarcastic comments (of which he has many) he tends to keep to himself, rather than express them to the classmate in question.
Perhaps the thing that has become the most important to him is his own identity. During his time at Hope’s Peak, when he was completely willing to abandon everything in pursuit of talent, researchers at the school conducted brutal experiments and performed brain surgery on him, turning him from Hajime Hinata into a person whose only desire was talent itself, with no other personality or motivation. During that time, he was given the name Izuru Kamukura, and any memory that he had once been Hajime Hinata was deeply buried. When Hajime learns this at the end of game, he’s disgusted and terrified; if he leaves the game, he might become that person again, which he desperately doesn’t want to do. He wants to continue his life as Hajime Hinata, and nearly risks everything their whole class has worked for in an attempt to stay that way. Creating the future for himself, and finding out who he is and what he can become on his own will be one of his primary motivations in Lagunbiru itself.
Abilities and Nerfs: None! Being totally normal is kind of his thing.
Inventory: just the clothes on his back!
Five Desires:
1) Date vouchers! Something he could use to go on a nice date with one or more people to either a fancy restaurant or a shopping trip, or an invite to a special event.
2) Money! Some kind of bonus to his stipend that he could use to improve living space or buy some nice things.
3) School memories. Not exactly a canon update, but regaining the memories that were repressed by his transformation into Izuru Kamukura. None of Kamukura's talents or any of his memories of his time AS Kamukura, since that'd be more like a canon update, but just the memories up to that point.
4) Panties… preferably those belonging to his close CR…
5) Personal VR room. While they're available for rent or purchase, maybe something he can have at home for personal use! Somehow that's less embarrassing than going out to use one in public.

Permissions!
Thanks to various events in his canon, Hinata has become incredibly adept at reading people/situations. He's also incredibly skilled at... just about everything a normal Earth-born human could be capable of. Just better. If you're interested in having Hinata call your character out on something, or if there's something he would be able to tell, please fill out the form below! Comments are screened.
Character name: Hi My Name Is (what) My Name Is (who)
Tells: Basically, are there any verbal or facial tics when a character is lying/trying to hide something? Subtle changes in body language? Maybe they just sweat a lot more. Gross, right? Do they get defensive around certain topics/people?
Interaction with other characters: Are there certain characters your character is obviously closer than others? Ways their behavior changes around certain characters? That's what this spot is for!
SHSL Luck: Hinata now has the same kind of luck that Komaeda (and DR1's Naegi) does. If you'd be interested in your character getting wrapped up in that, please let me know!
Other: There's definitely a lot more shit that should probably go here. Please let me know if there's anything else Super High School Level Best At Everything should know!
