The labs.

[He mumbles it to himself again as he forces himself out of the warmth of his blankets, absent-mindedly grabbing the yukata-like robe he'd taken to wearing over his pajama pants and throwing it over his shoulders to defend against the freezing temperatures.

Then he remembers to text back as he pads quietly out the door in an attempt not to wake his roommates.]

i'll be right there

[He could walk the path to the labs in his sleep by now; honestly, he can't promise that he hadn't done that at some points. Bemusedly, he wonders if this is the kind of occasion that calls for a trip to the kitchen for coffee, but the sheer amount of errors in those texts, and the fact that Roxy is somehow incapable of removing herself on her own from a closet is alarming enough that he just swallows another yawn and moves through the lab, opening the closets until he finds her.]

Roxy?

[ Roxy, who had been leaning with her back against the closet door, falls out of the closet when he opens it... along with a half-empty bottle of vodka and a couple of cats.

She looks up at him, face scrunched up as her eyes adjust to the light, and she reeks of alcohol. ]

Oh hey Hinata. Sup?

[Cats-! He has to shift his feet a bit as cats dart in all directions, careful to avoid getting in their way or stepping on them, before leaning down and scooping up the bottle of vodka in one smooth motion before it can spill all over the floor as he stares down at her. He doesn't seem disappointed or angry, just baffled.]

Why... were you drinking alone in a closet...?

[ She laughs, rubbing moisture from her eyes and effectively smudging her makeup. She just laughs again and wipes her hand off on her skirt. ]

Becaaaaause. I can't drink around people?

You... can't drink around people?

[Alright, apparently she's not picking herself up from the floor. It doesn't take any SHSL talents at all to smell the alcohol on her and hazard a guess that the bottle had been full before it had rolled into his hand.

Instead he just drops down to sit next to her, eyes flicking over her face, counting her breaths, making sure she's not in danger of passing out from alcohol poisoning at the very least.]

Roxy, what's wrong...?

[ When he asks her what's wrong, her mood shifts suddenly. She was drinking to forget what's wrong. Her buzz has been sufficiently harshed. She tries to play it off like nothing's wrong though, even if she's as transparent as glass at the moment. ]

Nothin', can't a smokin' hot babe have a drink or seven without gettin' the third fuckin' degree? Jeez.

I'm no expert on "smoking hot babes," but I'm pretty sure they're not usually found alone in closets as their natural environment, [he points out dryly, shifting to sit close enough to her that his shoulder bumps gently against hers.] Not when the temperature's close to freezing, anyway.

Can you drink with me...? There's a kotatsu in the rec room if you think you can teleport us there.

[If she doesn't want to talk about what's bothering her immediately, that's fine. He's not surrendering that bottle, though.

Also, can drunk people teleport? Possibly something he should have considered first.]

[ Halfway through the "nos", she forgot what she was even saying no to. Shrugging because it must not have been important!! she bumps shoulders with him, and attempting to stand up. Wobbly. Holding onto his shoulder and his noggin for balance. ]

M'sorry I called you n' woke you up, dude? Buuuuuut I should probs fuck off to the abyss that might as well be a physical representation of my soul by now? El-oh-el.

[ lol self-degradation is hilarious ]

[Ow his poor noggin. He huffs a quiet laugh and waits until she's not using his head as support for a second before he pushes himself smoothly to his feet, wrapping the hand not holding the bottle around her waist to support her more easily. Appreciate that nice, firm chest he has under a hastily-tied yukata. Maybe ignore the dumb slippers he's wearing with his fleece pajama pants because 32 degrees Fahrenheit is nothing to fuck around with?? He's warm fuck you.]

[He's trying to make her laugh by imitating her speech, because self-degradation is only funny when he's doing it to himself.]

Let's go to the rec room. I'll be fun. I can carry you if you want.

[ She knows that going out in public, she risks one of the Stridlondes or Jake or Karkat or somebody finding her like this, even in the middle of the night. Not all of them are good boys and girls like Hinata and sleep at normal times, okay.

The thing about being sloshed is that you can be easily convinced, however. Especially when he mentions the word "fun". ]

Mmmkay! I don't think I can teleport'chu tho? Wouldn't want to accidentallalay appearififfeye you into a wall or nothin'. Haha.

[ The only good judgement call she's made all night? Also the thought is exorbitantly hilarious to her for some reason, sorry. ]

[He shoves the bottle of vodka in his yukata pocket, and without further ado, literally sweeps her off her feet, princess-style. He's always been fairly built, but right now, it's more a combination of evenly distributing her weight and making sure to lift her properly that enables him to hoist her into the air with almost not effort at all.]

Sorry, did you say something? Maybe something about how I might not be able to carry you?

[He holds her even closer, if it's possible, keeping his grip on her gentle, but constant as he starts to head toward the stairs. Fortunately(?) they have luck on their side, so chances of running into any other responsible teens are very low.]

[ God what is it with her falling for guys who are big dorky show-offs. Look at this dumb plain bagel being suave while her drunk ass giggles against his shoulder. Fuck, they are a pair of idiots, and everything's hilarious. ]

You know it's just cruel by now to swoooooop in here with your princely mannerissims and washboarnd chest, n' blow up my ladyparts? My ovaries just asploded for realsies.

[ She's just joking!! Because joking is one of the many ways in which she copes. She is only a little turned on by his little demonstration, okay. ]

Don't say that, because the medbay is in the opposite direction of the rec room, you know.

[So hopefully her ovaries are still intact. Major surgery was not on his to-do list when he'd tucked himself into bed earlier. He's still trying to keep his voice light, keep from upsetting her again.]

Where did you find vodka, anyway? I didn't think we had any on base.

[ Roxy's giggling trails off quickly. She starts to pout. ]

If you look hard enough through alla the wreckage around us? You'd be surprised the kinda things you can find... [ She might have found it a while ago, shoved it in her Sylladex, and forgotten about it. ]

I kinda. Have a problem with booze? Hordin' it, drinkin' it.

Really...?

[He'd honestly had no idea. There'd been no reason for him to think about it, honestly? The worst he thought he had to worry about from Roxy was her falling too hard for someone and getting her heart broken (again) (still).

Once they're down the stairs, it's easy to get her into the rec room and gently set her down as he reaches to turn the heat on for the kotatsu.]

Here, get under here... it'll be warmer than the closet, I promise.

[ It's not the easiest thing to talk about, even when you're an open and shameless book like Roxy. There are just bad things that she doesn't want to focus on, or deal with at all, really... why? it seems like such a waste of time, fixating on the negative when she could be doing so many other things with her time. Things that make her happy. Like drinking, and (unsuccessfully) hitting on people, and going mad with "power" (technology) and cloning a couple dozen cats. What's so wrong with that? Arduous long-term processes of complete and utter humiliation are just her aesthetic, that's all.

Clumsily, her every move exaggerated, Roxy crawls under the kotatsu and snuggles up to Hinata instantly. ]

You're so warm, I never wanna let you go? [ She murmurs, her speech beginning to slur as her body processes more of the alcohol already in her body. She also hasn't slept in a few days? She really needs to learn how to love herself. Sleepily, she clings to the front of his yukata, and murmurs some more, ]

I love you, Hinata.

[ just casually drops the bomb but. you know, she could just mean platonically, right? Who knows. This is Roxy, whose wants and desires seemingly change on a whim. What's the old saying? Roxys and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. Yeah, something like that. ]

Roxy...

[He doesn't protest her snuggling up to his yukata, though he is careful to set the open bottle out of her reach. And lean to push it a little further away, too, because from the smell, he sure as hell doesn't want to put any of that in his mouth.

She can probably hear his heart pounding under the cloth, even as he sighs and wraps her into a hug. Ostensibly into a hug, that is. He's still checking to make sure she hasn't literally poisoned herself here. At least the only person he'd have to worry about is Rose, probably? Hajime doesn't seem like the type to get jealous over this. More like she'd want to join the cuddle pile, even as Hinata lightly strokes fingers through her hair, untangling any knots he finds.]

Love you too, [he murmurs quietly, but loud enough for her to hear. He knows how much she needs to hear something like that, even as he qualifies the statement with,] You're one of my best friends.

[ Roxy knows when all of this is over, and she wakes up with the worst hangover imaginable, that she is going to be in trouble. With herself, mostly. While she's cooked up a thousand and one scenarios in her head as to how people like Dirk, Jake, and Rose are going to react when they find out about this, they are just that-- scenarios. Hypotheticals born from the ashes of her self-esteem, the bastard children of anxiety and dread.

Like a dying star collapsing in on itself, and simultaneously spewing affection out all over the place, Roxy's love is a force of nature. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, in her book. Moderation has never been her strong suit; neither has looking before leaping. That's why she realizes, a little too late, just how utterly fucked she is, and why the realization hits her as hard as it does.

She tears up, because why bask in all this love and enjoy the moment when you can be a miserable piece of shit instead? ]

Ooh no.

[ she is so dead when she finds out about this in the morning!! ]

Roxy...

[Okay no that was the wrong response, apparently?? He ducks his head to try to look at her, though of course if her face is still buried in his chest he's not exactly going to be successful in that endeavor.]

Roxy, tell me what's wrong. Please?

[ Fortunately, Roxy's shifted so he can see her frowning face. ]

I'm gonna puke.

[That wasn't what he'd meant, but that is indeed a pressing concern, yes. Immediately, his fingers find the accupressure point of her wrist to help alleviate the nausea, and he's using his grip on her to help lift her gently to her feet.]

Bathroom's not far. Let's see if you can make it there.

[He will do his Best to get her into a toilet stall before she pukes, but if she can't make it, oh well.]

[ Looks like luck's on their side. Roxy makes it to the bathroom just in time, thanks to Hinata's help as well. When all is said and done, she'll feel a lot better, but right now? This fucking sucks and she wants to die.

Definitely overdid it this time. ]

[Roxy... he wishes there was something he could do to help, but this really is the best course of action. All he does right now is sit on the floor next to her and keep her hair out of her face. Because he's absolutely certain she doesn't want vomit in her hair. No one wants that.]

It's okay... I'll get you some water when you're done, don't worry.

[So much for his peaceful night's sleep.]

[ After what feels like an eternity of puking up all of her insides, Roxy leans back against Hinata and whines. She's so sorry she's a piece of shit, but god does she appreciate him being there for her through this. ]

Bluh. Soooorry. Used to be able to hold m'alcolol lots better than this.

[ she wants to die ]

[He hugs her close as he reaches up to flush the toilet, because god lord that is gross. Not one of the grossest things he's ever seen, but not exactly the nicest, either.

Instead, he tries to help her to her feet again, leading her to the sink.]
